Mission Statement

Our name, “Friends of Carrie and Ross,” is based on my brother, Ross, and me, and our experience with our mom’s cancer.

Friends of Carrie and Ross is dedicated to forming a supportive community for younger children whose parents have, or have had, any serious illness. We hope to help these children begin to understand their parents’ diseases. We will not pretend like nothing is wrong, but neither will we focus on the sadness.

As an organization, we hold gatherings, some for parents as well as children, and special fun-filled outings just for kids. We will have guest speakers from local hospitals, the American Cancer Society, and Gilda’s Club. As we expand, we hope to open a branch for teenagers, generating involvement in volunteer group activities like participating in walk-a-thons such as relay for life, volunteering for ACS and Gilda’s Club, and organizing fundraisers. Together, we can generate hope for a future of healthy parents.
